Ria Formosa Natural Park

At this time of year the weather is just wonderful so a great time to:

Cycle from Quarteira to Faro Island through Ria Formosa Natural Park

Discover one of the Algarve’s most scenic cycling routes, starting in Quarteira and finishing on the sandy shores of Faro Island. This coastal ride combines golden beaches, traditional villages, and the stunning landscapes of the Ria Formosa Natural Park.

From Quarteira, the route follows the coast east towards Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago, where pine forests meet the sea. The journey then leads into the Ria Formosa, a protected lagoon system famous for its salt flats, tidal marshes, and diverse birdlife, including flamingos and herons.

One of the highlights is the beautiful wooden boardwalk trail that winds through the nature park. Cycling here feels magical — the raised paths take you across dunes and wetlands, offering panoramic views of the lagoons and a chance to get close to nature without disturbing it.

The final stretch crosses the lagoon area towards Faro Island, where a wooden bridge brings you to a long, sandy beach — the perfect place to rest and enjoy the ocean after your ride.

Flat and accessible, this route is ideal for all cycling levels and offers a unique way to experience the natural beauty of the Algarve.
