Winter Riding: The Best Routes (and Why January is our Secret Season)
The summer crowds have gone, but the sun hasn’t! Many people ask us if it’s worth cycling in the Algarve during January. Our answer? It’s actually the best time of year. The air is crisp, the light is perfect for photos, and the coastal paths are finally quiet.
If you are visiting Quarteira or Vilamoura this week, here are two rides we highly recommend:

The Coastal Explorer (Easy): Start at our garage and head toward Vilamoura Marina. From there, follow the path toward Praia da Falésia. The orange cliffs look spectacular against the deep blue winter sky. It’s mostly flat, making it a perfect 1-2 hour morning spin.

The Nature Trail (Serene): Head east from Quarteira toward the Almargem Lagoon. This time of year, the birdlife is incredible. It’s a peaceful, traffic-free way to clear your head and enjoy the “Green Algarve.” You can even cycle to Faro Island through the Rio Formosa Nature Park.
Pro-Cycling is Coming!
Next month (February 18–22), the Volta ao Algarve brings the world’s best pro-cyclists to our doorstep. On Friday, Feb 20, they are even doing a Time Trial right here in Vilamoura and Quarteira! Now is the perfect time to get on a bike yourself and feel some of that energy on the same roads the pros use.

Because it is the quiet season, we have switched to our winter schedule to stay flexible for you:

Rental Returns: Up to 18:00
“The Pop-Over Service” Don’t worry if you miss the 12:00 cutoff! I live very close to the garage. If you want to rent a bike or a mobility scooter outside of those morning hours, just call me at +351 966 419 956. I can usually “pop over” in a few minutes to get you sorted and out on the road.
